So I think tonight will be my third night at High Sierra. These last few days have been a blur, what with orientation and meeting new people and all. We've done some fun orientation activities, such as a picture scavenger hunt and sitting up on a high hill we call "Star Rock" late one night around a campfire, just looking at the stars and praying. I also tried my hand at slack lining. I'm going to keep trying every day until I get it down!!
Today, I woke up this morning and went for a hike (because I'm not supposed to run yet, thank you concussion) with my amazing roommate, Lisa. She's from Norway, and I don't know what I'd do without her. I have another roommate, Alex, who is as equally amazing. Seriously, these girls are so unique and wise...I love them. Anywho! So Lisa and I went on a hike through the mountains this morning. It was beautiful! Hopefully I can get the pictures from her camera up on here.
After hiking, I headed off to my first class of the day...which isn't really a class, considering it's not on my actual schedule, nor transcript! This "class," "Plenary," is a biweekly 1.5 hour meeting of all the students where a teacher integrates the information we're learning in all our classes. You see, one of the things about High Sierra that makes it unique is the fact that all the classes are integrated. This semester we're working from the Renaissance to modern times, and and during Plenary, the instructor integrates what we've been learning in art, philosophy, history, christian classics, etc.
After Plenary, my next class was Aesthetics (an art class). This cool class is about, well, art! We'll be drawing, keeping an art journal (scrapbook), learning art pieces and studying artists, and taking art trips to museums in San Francisco, as well as an overnight painting trip to some remote location. Needless to say, my inner artist is looking forward to it.
After Aesthetics (and lunch!) I had Christian Classics. This reading-intensive course is where I will read many of the great works of history. It will be work, but it will be fun. Speaking of which...I have four books to read, and five and a half weeks to do it in. Plus some reports/papers on them......hm...
After Christian Classics, I packed into vans with the rest of the students and drove to Bass Lake. In the winter, Bass Lake, a man-made lake, is partially emptied. In the mud of the emptied lake we played mud flag football. I...didn't play 'cus, once again, I'm not supposed to run yet. Thank you concussion. =(. So I took pictures! More pictures to come.
After coming back from that, we had some down time so everyone could shower before dinner. Then dressed up for tonight, the theme was "tight and bright." Mhmm, yay neon and spandex! I found some awesome glasses that light up in the costume closet too. (more to come on this mysterious yet amazing costume closet.)
Well, now I really ought to do some homework before the community meeting tonight.
Abbi!!!!! I'm so glad you're having so much fun! I miss you though! And did you like slack lining? When you get it down and come back we'll have to do it together ;)
